Free Will

“If God thinks this state of war in the universe is a price worth paying for free will, then it is worth paying.” C. S. Lewis

How do you feel when someone has a choice and chooses you? What if they feel obligated and stuck with you, therefore with you against their will? Given free will, we are capable of glorifying God so much more by choosing Him. If God had forced our love, could that even be praise, could He be loved through this, could we truly be his children? I say no. If it weren’t for free will, the fear of God would be unnecessary, there would be no Love, Happiness, or any deep feeling. It would be an impassionate world without vibrancy. Since God has given us free will, He has allowed us to live in a world that is also tainted by sin and calamity. This is not what He has made happen, but what is available to people not in relationship with Him by choice. It is this that makes all good choices good and all bad choices bad. Without free will there would simply be actions without any connotations. Just mindless orders being carried out in complacency. Personally, I would rather fight the impurities and know that God is being praised and affecting us intimately than live as an automaton. It is more important to have lived a life with real Love than it is to never stray from the path. For it is in the wilderness that many of God’s most amazing moments present themselves and shine out his glory.
